REPLACE BACKGROUND (The folder we just created!)
Import the Astronaut_video.MP4 file
and the Firefly_created_AlienWorld.mp4
into Your Premiere Pro
It should be in your Videography folder!
Remember! Typically our clips will be in our Assets>Footage folder if we had shot them!
Shortcut: You can also press Alt+Shift+7
Click Window tab on top
Select WORKSPACE
Select EFFECTS
Drag the Firefly_created_AlienWorld clip into your Timeline.
This will be our background video.
Firefly_created_AlienWorld clip is on V1
Astronaut_video.mov clip is on V2
Next, take the Astronaut_video.mov clip and place it on the track ABOVE the alien clip.
Right now, the astronaut is standing in front of the wrong background.
We want to change the astronaut's background into the alien world.
So, let's isolate him by using the Object Mask tool.
With the Astronaut clip (V2) selected...
Now let's grab the Object Masking Tool from the Toolbar!
With the Object Masking Tool, hover over the astronaut, and you'll see a RED overlay preview.
Click on it to create the mask!
Before clicking, scrub through the clip to see if there are objects or things that might interfere with the main object we want to mask.
If there's any part of the astronaut that is not masked, you can include those sections by drawing around those areas to include them as part of the mask.
EFFECTS CONTROL PANEL...
With the Astronaut clip (V2) selected...
On the left, select Effect Controls tab
Under Unassigned Masks, you'll see your Object Mask (01) layer.
Click the Track forward and backward button in the middle to analyze the entire clip in both directions.
(The other buttons here are to track forward only, or backwards only, or frame by frame.)
And as we scrub (move the blue playhead) through, there are a few spots where the mask kind of breaks up a bit.
So, what we will do is just circle (you will see a lasso) around them with our mouse and include them as part of the mask.
And again, we'll just go frame by frame and create a circle - draw a circle - around these holes in the mask.
Blend your subject into a new environment
You won't see the cutout yet because the mask needs to be applied to opacity.
Object mask in the OPACITY folder:
With the Astronaut clip on V2 selected...
go to the Effect Controls panel and drag your Object Mask layer from Unassigned Masks into Opacity.
And just like that, the background disappears revealing the alien world underneath.
As you scrub through, you might notice the slight dark edge around the astronaut.
To refine this, use the Expansion Under Opacity in out Object mask) to around -3.0 to choke the mask inward.
Then add a bit of feathering (5.0) to soften the edges and blend everything naturally.
Wait! There is more!
Add text! (like we learned before!)
Based on what we already know...Lets add some text!
Move the playhead back to the beginning and select the clip.
Make sure NO clips are selected!
Now let's add some text...
Grab the Type tool in the timeline toolbar, click in the Program window and type ALIEN WORLD.
I used Myriad Pro Bold white
On the right in the Properties panel, resize it, reposition it, change the font and center it near the top but in the frame.
Right now, the text sits on top, but we want it behind the astronaut.
Drag your Astronaut video layer from V2 to V4 ...
ABOVE the ALIEN WORLD (V3) text layer.
Shorten the Astronaut video clip...
Click and pull the Astronaut video clip to line up with the end of the Alien World and Firefly clips
