WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Screen Writing & Storyboarding
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Learning screenwriting and storyboarding is important because they provide a clear blueprint for visual storytelling, saving time and money during production while ensuring everyone on the creative team works cohesively towards a shared vision. Screenwriting develops compelling narratives and characters, while storyboarding translates that script into a visual plan, allowing for early identification of problems, efficient resource management, and creative problem-solving before filming begins.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will follow along with instruction and use what we have learned to create a script/storyboard!
Screen Writing is the process of creating the text-based foundation for a film or news segment, describing the story, characters, and dialogue (questions).
Storyboarding is the process of creating a visual blueprint of the script for your news segment, using sequential drawings to map out the shots and camera movements.
You and your team will need a storyboarded script. You and your team will plan what it is that you will ask, what you need to shoot and how to shoot it.
The better of a plan you have, the less time it takes to edit your final product.
Every narrative must have a beginning, middle, and end.
Use a blank sheet of paper to start writing out your questions and shots. Once you have landed on what you will shoot, THEN fill out the form!
A reverse storyboard project
For this assignment, you will need to REVERSE STORYBOARD one of last year's News Segment #1s.
Using the StoryBoard sheet...
Use a blank sheet of paper to start writing out your questions and shots. Once you have landed on what you will shoot, THEN fill out the form!
Map out each shot from the video you chose.
Put your name on your sheet and indicate what team you are on!
For Project: Reverse Storyboard
For Subject: What is the video about? (ie PTC, Girls Volleyball etc)
Each different shot should be numbered.
Each different shot should tell the shot type (refer to the basic shots) and duration (approximately)
Each different shot should sketched in the 3x3 grid box (stick figures is ok!) Be as accurate as possible about where they are on the grid and which way they face!
