Lower Thirds
WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Adding a lower Third!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Using lower thirds is important in videography to enhance professionalism, improve audience engagement, and clearly communicate essential information like names, titles, and brand identities. They provide context by identifying speakers and locations, and they help to establish a consistent and professional brand look for your video content.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: Today we will add a lower third to our color 1 project!

We need to grab a file first!

Click the PREMIERE Image on the left!
(This is a MOTION GRAPHIC TEMPLATE!)
We will put this in soon!
The contents should NOT be separated!
Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Videography (or downloads) folder!
ZIP files contain one or more files compressed with ZIP compression.
ZIP is format that supports lossless data compression.
We need to grab a few fonts now!

Click the ZIP Image on the left!
We'll UNZIP these next!
Zip files typically will not show you the contents (but there are exceptions!)
Left click the DOWNLOAD button on the top right

This will save the file to your Videography (or downloads) folder!
Open your Videography folder!

RIGHT click the ZIP folder

Select EXTRACT ALL
Click EXTRACT (at the bottom)

*Files will now be a folder in your Videography folder!
Double click the folder to open it!

Folder should be named: Objective_OTF
Let's install the fonts!
With the Objective_OTF folder open...
Select ALL the files
(ctrl +A)
Right Click over one of the files (they are still ALL selected)
Click INSTALL!
Let's open Adobe Premiere Pro!
At the bottom of your screen click in the search bar and tyep PREMIERE.
Then click on the Adobe Premiere ICON or Click OPEN
Since we began a project it should be in the list (click on it!) or we can select OPEN PROJECT and navigate to our project!
(Your Initials) COLOR 1
Example: JS Color 1
(Joe Smith Color 1)
Shortcut: You can also press Alt+Shift+7
Make sure your workspace is set to EFFECTS

Click Window tab on top
Select WORKSPACE
Select EFFECTS
Adding the Lower third!
On the right, click GRAPHICS TEMPLATES tab
To Add a Motion Graphics Template:
Click the icon that looks like a box with a +
Go to your Videography folder to find the

Click OPEN
Now, Drag it FROM the GRAPHICS Templates to the timeline above the clip we want to add a lower third to!
Be patent while it loads!
In the timeline, select the graphic (LT07)
On the left, Open EFFECT CONTROLS
We need to resize the effect!
Under fx Motion:
Open the SCALE >
Move the slider to 37
The graphic should be on your clip now!
In the timeline, with the graphic (LT07) still selected...
In the Properties Panel on the right we can now change the text (Name and Position)
Change the Name to your First Name
Change the Surname to your Last Name
Change the Position to

Once you have changed the name and position we need to shorten the graphic clip...
Move the Blue Play head to about 4 or 5 seconds
Using the RAZOR tool, click on the graphic in the Timeline where the play head is now and click where the line shows.
You should now have 2 clips
Select the move tool (arrow) and select the second clip of the graphic and press DELETE on the keyboard.
Select the first part of the graphic and select copy (Ctrl + C)
Ctrl + V to paste the graphic again
With the second (shortened) graphic clip selected...
Right click it and select SPEED DURATION
Then click to check REVERSE SPEED
This should make the graphic now enter and exit!
Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!!
Press Ctrl + S to SAVE!!!
EXPORTING YOUR FINAL FILE!
Now that we are done, we need to render and export our file into something everyone can watch!!
SAVE YOUR FILE FIRST!
Click on the EXPORT tab on the top left! (wait for the screen to change!)
Change the file name!
First Initial Last Initial LOWER THIRD
Example: JS LOWER THIRD.mp4
Change the LOCATION!
Click the blue link and go to the Desktop then to your Videography Folder>Color Correction Project 1>Exports
Preset should be:
Match Source-Adaptive High Bitrate
Format: H.264
Click EXPORT!

Go to our Classroom in TEAMS
Select Assignments
Select
Videography: Lower Thirds Project!
Scroll down to MY WORK
Click +ATTACH
Click UPLOAD FROM THIS DEVICE
Select DESKTOP (on the left) then the VIDEOGRAPHY Folder>Color Correction Project Folder
Find the MP4 file we EXPORTED and select it:
First Initial Last Initial Lower Third.mp4
Example: TE Lower Third.mp4
Click OPEN
The new lower third MUST be included with Your First and Last Name and title!
Wait for file to upload
File will show up below under My Work
CLICK TURN IN!
NOTE: There MUST be an MP4 file attached to get credit. Simply clicking TURN IN will not do!!!
TOTAL: 25 POINTS!!!
