WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Editing Videos.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Learning to edit videos properly is important for crafting engaging visual stories, enhancing quality, conveying specific moods, and ensuring professional presentation across various platforms. Proper editing transforms raw footage into polished content, improving technical quality through smooth pacing and audio, while also developing crucial skills like storytelling, technical proficiency, and attention to detail valuable for careers in media, marketing, or personal projects.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: As the year progresses you will record and edit video projects with you team!
REMINDER: Whenever we have Footage for our projects, the media MUST go into a new (copied and renamed) Video Project Folder...inside Assets then inside FOOTAGE!
Let's open Adobe Premiere Pro!
At the bottom of your screen click in the search bar and tyep PREMIERE.
Then click on the Adobe Premiere ICON or Click OPEN
Right click the Premiere icon at the bottom of your screen and PIN TO TASKBAR!
Premiere opens up it presents you with this screen and in here you can find all your most recent projects.
Since we began a project it should be in the list (click on it!) or we can select OPEN PROJECT and navigate to our Tutorial project!
(Your Initials) Tutorial 1
Shortcut: You can also press Alt+Shift+7
Click Window tab on top
Select WORKSPACE
Select EFFECTS
RECAP: there are four main panels that you’ll use every time you edit a video:
The Project panel, which helps you organize and find your media
The Source monitor that shows you a preview of your clips selected from the Project panel.
The Timeline panel where you arrange your clips into the story you want to tell.
The Program monitor where you watch it all come together.
What about Videos with Audio in Premiere...
Next we will add latte art.mp4
Go back to the Project Panel and Double click on the latte art.mp4 clip in the BIN
It should be in the Source panel now
For this clip, it has audio also
Sorry! The audio in this clip doesn't work but we can use the example!
Now if we look at the Source Panel closely, there are two icons under the clip image
One will "Drag ONLY VIDEO"
the other will "Drag ONLY AUDIO"
This is good when you want to separate the video from the audiobecause youo just don't need one or the other.
But look...
If we drag this clip to the timeline panel, there are two separate pices that split into different timelines
One is for V1 (a video timeline)
and the other A1 (an audio timeline)
Moving & Layering Sequences in Premiere...
MOVING
What if you put a sequence in the wrong spot?
Sequences can be draged and moved througout the timeline
Latte art on V2 ON...
Latte art on V2 toggled OFF...
LAYERING
When you stack sequences or layer, the one on top take precedence (meaning we se that clip not the once below)
But we can toggle these on and off by clicking the EYE to the left of the timeline row.
Audio Muted on A2...
MUTING AUDIO
Just like with the video clips, we can also MUTE audio tracks...
Toggle Audio on and off by clicking the M (Mute) to the left of the timeline row.
Move the latte art sequence back to row V1
Move it's Audio to A1
They should snap together!
Add the last clip...
Go back to the Project Panel and add the final clip from the BIN
Using the same instructions add:
Working 01.mp4
Mark in and out as you want and add to the timeline!
Adding more Audio...
MP3 files (Audio) you can't "see" but you can hear!
This will save the file to your Videography (or downloads) folder!
RIGHT click and OPEN the TUTORIAL 1 folder
in a NEW WINDOW
OPEN the ASSETS folder
OPEN the AUDIO folder
Adding an Audio file in Premiere...
The easy way!
Now with the AUDIO folder open
Drag the audio file to the Bin in the Project Panel!
Add the audio to the timeline by dragging it under the dripping espresso clip already in the timeline.
It should go in row A1 (A is for Audio)
Make sure to click SAVE!
SHORTCUT!
Press and hold the CTRL and ALT keys on your keyboard + the DELETE key (above the Backspace key!)
Please place HEADPHONES on your Monitors!
