WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Basic Shots in Videography!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Learning basic camera shots is crucial in videography for effective visual storytelling, as shots set the mood, convey emotion, and provide essential context to the audience. Mastering these fundamentals also provides a common visual language for clear communication among a production team, allowing filmmakers to plan their shots more efficiently and translate their creative vision into compelling visuals that guide the viewer's perspective and emotional response to the story.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: Today you will learn about basic shots in videography, edit and then shoot them yourselves!

Video Project Template_COPY ME folder Select COPY
You can also just select the folder, (don't open it) and on your keyboard press Ctrl + C (Copy)
Now RIGHT click in the white area inside the Videography folder and select PASTE
You can also just click in the white area and on your keyboard press Ctrl + C (Paste)
Did you know when a file or folder 's name is highlighted BLUE you can simply start typing to rename it! (hint: don't press delete!)
Right click the copied folder and select RENAME
Name the folder BASIC SHOTS
Note! This is DIFFERENT from the Basic Shots TRIAL folder!
Now, each team will go out and begin shooting their Basic Shots.
Decide who is the talent (people who will be on screen) and who is the cameraman.
Remember, Wide Shot, Full Shot, Mid Shot, Medium Closeup, Close Up #1, Close up #2 and Extreme Close Up should be the same person in the same spot just at different view points!
After that change positions!
Everyone on the team should try the camera AND talent!
Remember to pay attention to you lighting and exposure!
Cameras should be set to (30 fps) or 1/60 of a second. Aperture and ISO should be adjusted accordingly!
Always make sure your shutter speed is 2x your Frame rate
Example: if youe Frame Rate is 30fps
Shutter Speed should be 1/60 (2x30)
Lens opening which controls exposure and depth of field
Lower Number = Wider open Aperture/Iris
(This means it lets in more light giving a SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD or DOF resulting in a blurry background)
High Number = More closed Aperture/Iris
This means it lets in less light resulting in more of the shot will be in focus.
Measurement of the sensor's sensitivity
Lower ISO = Preferred...the lower the better!
During the day, outside around 200 or less! (not a rule)
High ISO = Allows more "Light/Sensitivity" but image might start to look more "grainy" (Gain)
Inside try around 800 (not a rule) or compensate with Aperture or Shutter speed to not get gain (that grainy look!)
Teams shooting should be back in class by 2:00 PM to download today's footage!
